Naples is an important transport hub in Southern Italy and is easily accessible by multiple means:
The main airport is Naples International Airport-Capodichino (NAP). There are direct flights to major European cities. Alitalia and Lufthansa operate routes out of Naples that connect to destinations across the globe.
From the Naples airport you can reach the city center by Taxi or by Alibus Airport Shuttle that runs every 20 minutes and is the fastest and most frequent bus service, connecting the airport directly to the Naples Central Station (Napoli Centrale) and the Port (Molo Beverello). The journey takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
Connection from Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO)
If you fly into Rome's largest airport, Fiumicino (FCO), the most efficient way to get to Naples is as follows:
- Fast Train: Take the high-speed train Frecciarossa or Italo directly from the Fiumicino train station (Leonardo Express) to Roma Termini station.
- Transfer: At Roma Termini, switch to a high-speed train that takes you to Napoli Centrale. The total travel time is approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on the connection.
You can also take a Fiumicino Express bus directly from the Rome Fiumicino airport to downtown Naples near the train station. This journey takes around 3 hours.
The main station is Napoli Centrale (Piazza Garibaldi), located in the heart of the city. Naples is excellently connected by the Italian railway network:
- High-Speed Trains (Frecciarossa/Italo): They connect Naples quickly with Rome (approx. 1 hour 10 minutes), Florence (approx. 2 hours 45 minutes), and Milan (approx. 4 hours).
- Regional Trains: Ideal for visiting nearby locations like Caserta or Salerno.
Various long-distance bus companies (such as FlixBus, MarinoBus) offer direct services to Naples from other European cities and major Italian centres at very economical prices. Buses usually arrive and depart from the Central Station (Piazza Garibaldi) or the nearby bus terminal.
You can drive to Naples easily by following the A1 (Autostrada del Sole), which connects Milan and Rome with Naples.
